As I made my way to Will’s place, I shook my head. I didn’t know whether to be upset, feel lost, or be confused. The fact that people were already gossiping about me constantly made me infuriated. But the fact that I wasn’t going to have anywhere to put myself or my animals in a few weeks made me feel alone and helpless. And to make matters worse, I had no idea what the hell Will had planned for tonight.

I had a feeling it wasn’t good, though.

Nonetheless, I needed to get out of my place for a little while. I needed a distraction, and Will was certainly that. So, I’d been looking forward to this surprise little outing all week. I had a cheap bottle of wine sitting in the passenger seat, along with fruits I picked up from the store and some chocolate dip to heat up in the microwave. But, other than that, I was flying blind with tonight.

Which felt kind of exciting, in a weird ‘I don’t want to have to kill my ex’ kind of way.

I made my way down side roads and back roads until I finally found the gravel shoot-off that led straight through the woods to Will’s place. And when I parked my truck right next to his, I grabbed my things to head for the door. I drew in deep breaths as I walked up the stairs. I clutched the bottle of wine tightly before I knocked my knuckles softly against the door.

However, when Will opened up, I couldn’t take my eyes off him.

“Hey there, beautiful,” he said with a grin.

He had on a pair of tailored suit pants that fit him like a glove, accenting his long legs and his strong, chiseled thighs. The button-front shirt he wore was wrinkled from a long day’s work, and the sleeves were rolled up to showcase the veins trickling up his forearms. And with his tie loosened, the only thing I wanted to do was shove him back to his bedroom and have my way with him.

But, I settled for clearing my throat. “You look nice. A special occasion.”

He chuckled as he looked down. “I actually just got back in from work about half an hour ago. And I’m already eyeing that bottle of wine you’ve got in your hand.”

I held it out for him. “Then, by all means, let’s unwind.”

He took it from me. “I like the sound of that.”

I saw things sitting out on the counter for dinner as he let me inside. He took the bag of treats from me and promptly stuck them in the fridge. Then I watched as he effortlessly uncorked the bottle of wine. I didn’t know whether I was more entranced by his fluid movements or by the wine blubbing itself into a long-stemmed glass.

Nonetheless, I sat down at the kitchen table so I could help take a load off my wobbling legs.

“So, I was thinking steak and vegetables for dinner,” Will said as he brought me a glass of wine.
